About your tyres
The tyres on your vehicle are one of its most important components, it's the only contact you have with the ground so has to cope with acceleration and more importantly braking safety.

Tyre Tread Measurements
Tyres are measured by taking three readings across the width of the tyre starting with the outside tread depth measurement. There can be a wide variation in the readings signifying different things. For example, a reading of 7,5,3 may indicate the need for a four wheel alignment check.

MAXIMUM TYRE TREAD = 8mm
MINIMUM LEGAL LIMIT = 1.6mm
RECOMMENDED MINIMUM TREAD = 3m



Illegal Tyre(s) Penalty
There is a maximum fine of up to £2500 and an additional three penalty points on your licence for each illegal tyre.
